Not far from Timbuktu, now ruled by the religious fundamentalists, Kidane lives peacefully in the dunes with his family and their twelve-year-old shepherd. Back in the city, the people suffer from the regime of terror imposed by the Jihadists. Music, laughter, cigarettes, even soccer have been banned. Timbuktu competed for the Palme d’Or in 2014 and won the Oecumenical Prize.
