Supported by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni, Bristol Translates is an online summer school scheduled from 1 to 5 July. Geared towards practising translators and language enthusiasts interested in literary translation, this programme offers a valuable opportunity for continuous professional development.

The Institut français du Royaume-Uni is delighted to support French scholar Maboula Soumahoro‘s Keynote talk as part of Bristol Translates 2024 on 1 July at 17.00.

Born in Paris and raised by a Jula-speaking Ivorian mother, who feels most at home speaking English in New York City, the discussion will tackle the complex interplay between language and personal identity. In conversation with award-winning translator from French Ros Schwartz, they will explore how the act of translation is deeply bound up with the sense of identity.

This event will be conducted online via Zoom and is open to all.
