When an accident destroys a decaying metropolis called New Rome, Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a playboy architect and Nobel Prize–winning scientist with the power to control time, aims to rebuild it as a utopia, but faces the corrupt Mayor Cicero who wants to maintain the conservative status quo. Torn between them is Cicero’s socialite daughter and Cesar’s love interest, Julia (Nathalie Emmanuel). The director behind The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now funded this gargantuan effort with over $120 million of his own money, resulting in total creative freedom. Dedicated to Coppola’s recently departed wife, Eleanor, Megalopolis serves as closure for a passion project over four decades in the making from the 85-year-old auteur.
