In Conversation with Clara Dupont-Monod

Wed 5 March

Meet Clara Dupont-Monod in conversation with translator Ben Facini. She will present And the Stones Cry Out (S’adapter), which was shortlisted for the Prix Goncourt in 2021 and was awarded the Prix Goncourt des lycéens and Prix Femina that same year.

Clara Dupont-Monod is one of France’s most celebrated contemporary authors, whose work has captivated both readers and critics. A journalist (France Inter) as well as a novelist, Clara studied ancient French at the Sorbonne and has been honoured as a Chevalière de l’ordre national du Mérite in recognition for her contributions to literature.

Published in English in 2024 by Maclehose Press, And the Stones Cry Out is a modern fable set in the Cévennes, where ancient stones bear witness to the lives of a family adapting to the challenges of raising a child with profound disabilities. Through the perspectives of the child’s siblings—a devoted older brother, a resentful sister, and a younger sibling shaped by absence—Clara paints a moving portrait of resilience, love, and the beauty of difference.

Clara will be joined by writer Ben Faccini, who translated the novel into English, for an engaging conversation about this remarkable book.

The evening will conclude with a book signing, with copies (in French and English) available for purchase onsite with our partner bookshop, Librairie La Page.
