Miscomprehension as a working method: a lecture given by Elisabeth Lebovici

How can one fully comprehend art when the social context in which it evolves exceed us ? From the AIDS epidemic to the #MeToo Movement, Elisabeth Lebovici’s history with art critic has been scattered with hardships. The French art historian eventually chose “miscomprehension” as a method.

As part of the UK section of the annual International Association of Art Critics, she will give a lecture on how to engage with art with a blank and unbiased mind, using Daniel Arasse’s notion of “not seeing anything” as a framework.
