Under the direction of conductor Jean-Christophe Spinosi, the virtuosi musicians of the Ensemble Matheus revisit Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade to a libretto by poet Metastasio after Herodotus. The plot is set on the Elysium, near the Greek city of Olympia. King Clistene promises his daughter Aristea’s hand to the winner of the Olympic Games. Expect a formidable melodic outburst in which betrayed friendships and thwarted loves compete.
