On 4 March 2024, France became the first country in the world to guarantee the right to abortion in its constitution.

Abortion has been legal in France since 1975 but parliamentarians voted to revise the country’s 1958 constitution to enshrine women’s “guaranteed freedom” to abort.

For in-depth analysis and a deeper perspective on this historical step for women’s rights, join a discussion with Thierry Tuot, President at the Conseil d’Etat, who led the reflection on the constitutional change.

The talk will be followed by the screening of A Story of Women (at 20.30). Set in France during World War II, Claude Chabrol’s powerful drama centres on Marie (Isabelle Huppert) who helps women get an abortion.
