More about the course
- Objectives
You will enrich your vocabulary in general French and Film analysis through group discussions on a variety of subjects : society, accents to regional identities, politics or humour. You will learn more about the French cinema industry, the history of cinematic movements.
- Learning approach
Each course will focus on a specific topic with an in-depth analysis of two films to discuss key movements/actors and contemporary cultural issues. Weekly discussions will be enriched with film extracts, film critics and other documents provided by your tutor in advance. You will have an input in the choice of documents discussed in-class and whenever possible be informed and follow film released and special events from Ciné Lumière.
- Programme
To complement ‘Alain Delon: An Odyssey’s retrospective at Ciné Lumière, we will discuss Alain Delon, the man, the actor, the myth.
- Resources
Films, press critics release and audio-visual supports will be provided by your tutor.
- Tutor
Dr Karine Chevalier is a filmmaker, university lecturer and researcher in Film studies with a strong expertise in teaching French language and French culture for foreign students. She has published extensively on French and Francophone cinema.
